The Blessing That Opens the Age of Canaan (Joshua 1:1–9) 10/12/2025
During this recent mission trip, we held onto the covenant of “The Bartizan That Opens the Age of Africa.” We received many answers and blessings, and it was also a time to clearly confirm what ministry our church should now focus on. As I meditated on the flight back, I realized that, though our time was short, we were used for the very work Christ desires. And as I reflected, I began to see the message of the Book of Joshua, which we will begin sharing this week.
I was grateful to confirm four key answers, blessings, and missions. Before sharing the message, let me briefly report on this mission.
First, the answer of discipleship that Christ desired and focused on (Matthew 28:18–20). In Malawi, we held an ordination ceremony for James, a disciple whom I had nurtured for three years, and the first to receive pastoral ordination abroad. Though he already graduated from university and a bible college, as he continues his studies at Remnant University, he will become a model for the Africa gospelization and the remnant movement. In Kenya, I met a remnant Johnson, whom I have been mentoring since the Kakuma refugee camp ministry years ago. We spent three days together in personal counseling and training. I placed him in the message team to proclaim the Way of Salvation. Born in Congo, raised in Uganda, and now trained in Kenya, he will become a pastor who revives Africa.
Second, the answer received through pastoral training. The common request we heard was to hold pastoral training and evangelism training. When one pastor comes to life, countless souls and churches are revived. While online evangelism school and RU online courses are importnat, we are praying to send instructors for in-depth, on-site training in the future.
Third, the blessing of the medical camp that will be a model for continued healing ministry. Healing ministry is the work Christ Himself carried out (Matthew 4:23) and the last mission He gave us (Mark 16:17–20). We did not go simply to provide general medical services. First, everyone was given the chance to hear and receive the gospel (spiritual healing that will heal spiritual problems and destiny). Next, through meetings with doctors and medical volunteers, they experienced emotional healing within the blessing of those who serve. Then, through acupuncture and medicine, they experienced physical healing by specialized skills. All healing begins with spiritual healing, which then leads to the healing of the mind, body, and life.
Fourth, the most important key for the age of African—the ministry of posterity. Without the next generation, there is no hope. The conquest of Canaan was completed when the second generation (age of Joshua) rose under the dedication of the first generation (age of Moses). Before his ordination, Pastor James of Malawi had already been evangelizing and overseeing four local branch churches. We gave offering, praying to establish an RUTC at his main church on a 20-acre land. This will become the RUTC that will raise remnant summits who will save Africa. This age of Canaan is the “age of Africa” for these people, and the “remnant age” for us (important realistic reason).
- How do we open it? Hold to the covenant God has given. The age will open as much as the gospel of Christ is proclaimed, imprinted, and experienced. Since we couldn’t do anything ourselves, the Son of God came as the Christ. God planned, prepared, and completed it. And He has chosen to do it through us who have received salvation and hold to His covenant. What is this covenant?
1) “Go to the land I am giving to the Israelites” (v. 2). The covenant of Canaan is the covenant of Christ. Why is the land of Canaan important? Because it is the land where Christ would come. There, He would finish all problems—sin, fate, Satan, and the curse of hell—and give us the identity of those He will use (Romans 8:1–2; Colossians 2:13–14; Ephesians 2:19; 1 Peter 2:9). Therefore, go. Christ is the absolute answer and absolute power that will open a new age and fulfills God’s kingdom.
2) “Every place where you set your foot I have given you” (v. 3). This is the covenant of world conquest (covenant of world evangelization), the secret to opening the age of Canaan, the age of Africa, and the age of Remnant. Its fulfillment must continue through the next generation. That is why the parent generation must accurately pass down the covenant.
3) “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life” (v. 4). This is the covenant of victory. Though Satan will try in many ways to block our blessings, answers, and missions, he cannot succeed because Christ fights for us. The first generation must first enjoy this spiritual victory and raise the next generation as soldiers of Christ who will also win this battle. “Be strong and courageous” (v. 6). Faith transcends every problem and circumstance.
4) “Do not turn from it to the right or to the left. Meditate on the Word and obey it” (v. 7–9). This is the covenant of guidance. Satan will shake us through circumstances, reality, and failure. But as we meditate on God’s Word, we receive His promised strength. When we follow the Word, every door opens. It says that our path will be prosperous. We witnessed this Word fulfilled exactly in the mission field. It is a blessing we must also experience in daily life. Satan will deceive using the wisest, most realistic problems. But we must not be deceived.
- What did the first generation under Moses do while holding onto this covenant in the wilderness? This is important. The first generation paved the way for the Remnant age and built the fortress. That is the system, the bartizan (Isaiah 62:6,10).
1) The dedication of Moses and the first-generation believers
① They fought countless battles. To gain that strength, they built the tabernacle in the wilderness, and were led by the pillar of cloud and fire.
② It wasn’t only a journey of thanksgiving. There were also many failures and shameful moments. Yet God turned all of it into a foundation and a mirror for future generations (1 Corinthians 10:11). Even if parents are lacking or flawed, if they hold to the covenant and pray humbly, everything is passed down as blessing.
2) The covenant Moses and the first generation passed down
① The most important was the Three Feasts Covenant [Passover (salvation), Pentecost (power of the Holy Spirit), and the Feast of Ingathering (missions and the blessing of the throne)].
② Building the tabernacle and camping around it was the covenant of worship. When they enjoyed deep fellowship with God, every door opened, the path became clear, and all enemies fell. Believers must enjoy every answer within worship.
3) The remnant disciples Moses and the first generation raised
① Through Moses, disciples like Joshua and Caleb arose, and together they conquered Canaan.
② This is why we focus on remnant ministry (Sunday School, Saturday Summit School, Summit Preschool, Remnant Day, and Remnant Conferences).
③ This is also why we bring remnants on short-term mission trips. It is to open their spiritual eyes to the global field and give them the opportunity to experience how great a blessing it is to be used in world missions.
Conclusion - The first generation under Moses and the next generation under Joshua and the remnants together opened the age of Canaan. In the same way, the age of Africa and the Remnant age in America will be opened. The key now is the disciple who must rise through you (Remnant discipleship movement and Remnant spiritual parenting movement. They are already prepared both inside the church and in the field (like Rahab in Joshua 2). May all of us become the main figures who open the age of Canaan and the age of Remnant.

Preparation for the Last Day (2 Timothy 4:1–8) 9/28/2025
This is the conclusion of 2 Timothy. Chapter 4, which we will look at this week, is “for the last day of my life, what should I prepare for and how should I live?”
The Bible speaks of three kinds of “ends.” First is the end of history. No matter how strong a nation may be, it is not eternal, and the day of destruction and judgment will come. Second is the end of the world. A day will come when all humanity will be judged, and the kingdom of the new heaven and new earth will begin. This was last week’s message. Third is the end of the individual. Every person will inevitably come to the end of their life and stand before God. Eschatology is the theological subject that studies this in depth.
Why is this important? Because living with this day in mind gives life deep wisdom (Psalm 90:10–12). God gave us the principle of creation that divides life into days, weeks, months, and years so that we might prepare in advance for the final day. That means deciding what am I living for (goal)? How will I live (attitude)? What will I leave behind (conclusion)? Then we are to examine this daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. Life is such that whenever God calls, we must go. That is why today matters.
- What should the saved people live for, how should they live, and what should they leave behind?
The one-word answer is to live as an “evangelist.” As we have emphasized for weeks, this is the identity of the evangelist, the disciple. God’s goal (His heart), His method, and His conclusion is to give answers through us, His children, to all those in suffering, to give them life and healing. This is the believer’s mission, and also the highest blessing.
1) For this blessing, God sent His Son as the Christ. By His death, He redeemed us and forever set us free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1–2; Colossians 1:13–14). By His resurrection, He destroyed the power of Satan who drags the world into darkness, and gave us eternal victory (Romans 1:4; 1 John 3:8). By becoming the way, allowed us to live eternally enjoying the throne of heaven (John 14:6; Rev. 21:4-
\5).
2) Those who know, enjoy, and follow this Christ carrying out the work He entrusted are the disciples and evangelists. ① From the beginning, saved believers were disciples (Acts 2:41; 6:1; 11:26). Yet this blessing is being lost today. ② To these disciples, the Lord promised the evidence that they would inevitably be His witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). This is also being lost. ③ Their families, children, businesses, future, even their pain, tears, and failures, God turned into testimonies (Genesis 39:5; Luke 22:31–32; 1 Timothy 1:15). Though they may face suffering or injustice for a time, Jesus promised they would receive a hundredfold and eternal life (Mark 10:29–30).
3) In verses 1–5 of today’s passage, Paul explains how evangelists must live in the last days. ① Do everything before God and Christ who is seated at the right hand of the throne (v.1). What is Christ doing, who ascended to the throne? He prays for us, who are weak and living on earth (Romans 8:34), intercedes for us when we fail (Hebrews 7:25), and will ultimately judge all things (Matthew 25:31–40). ② With eyes fixed on Christ, turn every matter and event into an opportunity for evangelism (v.2). That is what “Preach the Word in season and out of season” means. “In season” refers to everyday life. God certainly places people around us ready to hear the gospel, yet we often overlook them. “Out of season” means to create the opportunity through evangelism camps, short-term missions, and similar times. Whether individually or as a church, everything must be resolved through evangelism, holding onto the blessing of the evangelist. Each opportunity must become the greatest opportunity. ③ With patience, teach, enlighten, and give strength (v.2b). In the last days, people will not accept sound doctrine but will follow their own desires (v.4). They may follow for a while out of selfish motives, but eventually leave. So do not expect comfort or reward from people. They will chase after outward displays of power rather than the gospel (v.5). Satan also shows power (New Age, various religions). Therefore, be sober-minded in all things, endure hardship, and walk the path of the evangelist (v.6).
- Paul is the model of someone who lived and died as an evangelist, a disciple.
As the final moments of his life drew near, he confessed his life as one who lived for evangelism (v.6–8).
1) He said, “I have fought the good fight.” ① This is why Paul urged Timothy to stand as a good soldier of Christ. Believers must fight spiritual battles all their lives with the authority of Christ’s name and finish with spiritual victory. To do this, we must build up the bartizan and stand as spiritual watchmen in prayer (Isaiah 62:6–7). ② Why is this blessing so important? Because we can no longer live losing it and being robbed of it. Israel in the Old Testament, and we in this age, have lost this blessing. That is why the theme of the Malawi and Kenya medical mission is “Raise the bartizan to open the age of Africa.” God has absolute reasons for opening the age of Africa (historical, generational, gospel, and spiritual reasons). The only mthod is the bartizan of “Only.” Only Christ, Only God’s Kingdom, Only the power of the Holy Spirit.
2) He said, “I have finished the race.” ① This is why Paul urged Timothy to live as a runner. Our life is not aimless. It is not a life we just live for what we want and enjoy (not a picnic life).
Of course, God has promised us every blessing of heaven and earth (Deuteronomy 28:1–19; Ephesians 1:3–5). Why? ② Because there is a mission that God has given. Even the meaning of vocation, profession, or occupation for Christians comes from the idea of “mission.” We walk the path of the “remained ones”. We were chosen by grace, we live to testify to the gospel of grace (Romans 11:5, Acts 20:24). We walk the path of the “pilgrim.” Our whole life is worship (Romans 12:1–2). We display the glory of Christ (Philippians 1:21). Suffering deepens our fellowship with God and matures us as disciples (James 1:2–4). We walk the path of the Conqueror and Evangelist. We live as witnesses who save people and the world (Acts 1:8). With the health, wealth, time, and talents God gives, we save all the nations.
3) He said, “there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness.” ① This cannot be compared with worldly glory, rewards, or crowns. It is given by the One who permitted our lives, saved us, blessed us, and prepared eternal glory for our lives (Revelation 22:5). ② When is that day? The day Christ returns (v.8). That is why both the end of the world and the end of our lives must come.
Conclusion - As Christ’s disciple and evangelist, may your life be best life until the last day of the world and the last day of your life.
Preparation for the Last Day (2 Timothy 4:1–8) 2 Timothy 4:1–8
(Vocation, Profession, Occupation)

Preparation for the Last Days (2 Timothy 3:1–5) 9/21/2025
The central theme of 2 Timothy is - in the last days of the world and in the final moments of our lives, what will we leave behind on earth before we stand before God? The passage for today warns that in the last days, there will be times of suffering. Not just “the last days,” but specifically “times of great suffering.”
The Bible warns of three kinds of “ends.” First is the end of history. The prophetic books repeatedly record this. Assyria, Babylon, and Persia that conquered the world all eventually collapsed. Thus, every nation and ruler must remain humble before God, because He is the one who governs the rise and fall of history. Second is the end of the world. This is what we must carefully reflect upon through today’s text. Third is the end of each individual. One day, each of us will finish our earthly life and stand before God’s judgment seat (2 Corinthians 5:10). This will be next week’s message. The reason the Bible speaks of the end is so that, within the time God has permitted, we may live before Him thinking about how to live, what to live for, and what to leave behind. God is both the one who begins and the one who ends all things.
- Why must believers, especially disciples who will be used as gospel witnesses, prepare for the last days?
1) Because that day is the fulfillment of Christ’s final covenant.
① What covenant has God continually emphasized in Scripture? He sent Christ to set us free, make us eternal children of God, and dwell with us (eternal covenant). He promised to raise us as witnesses to save our generation and the ends of the earth (covenant of the age). He gave us the covenant to save our regions, nations, and especially the great nations where the peoples gather (field covenant). And each week through the pulpit, He gives us the covenant to have victory throughout the week and the year.
② Why does God give us these covenants? So that by holding to them, we may gain victory with faith in every problem and event, and wait for the coming Christ.
2) Because on the day Christ returns, the world will end, and judgment will come upon all evil.
① That will be the day when God’s love of patience and perfect justice are fulfilled. On that day, the wicked will be judged according to what is written in the book of life (Revelation 20:12–13), and Satan will be cast into the lake of fire forever (Revelation 20:14).
② Then God will wipe away every tear from the suffering church and believers (Revelation 21:4). There will be no more death, mourning, or pain.
3) Because on that day, God’s people, the disciples who gave their lives for the gospel will receive special glory.
① Jesus warned that the world will hate us simply because we became His people (John 15:19). For the gospel, we may sacrifice and lose many things. But God promised that we will receive a hundredfold even in this life, eternal life in the world to come (Mark 10:29–30), and further, rule with Christ over the new heaven and new earth (Revelation 22:5).
② That will be the day when God’s people are eternally comforted. This is why the end must come, and why we must prepare for it.
- How should we prepare for that day?
1) Our eyes must be opened to see the end. Then we will understand the attitude of faith we must have and the work we must do. ① Jesus said many signs will appear before the end (Matthew 24:1–28). These are historical evidences. We will hear news of disasters in the world (wars, famines, and earthquakes). And this is only the beginning. Believers will face persecution, they will betray each other, and false prophets will rise to deceive many. ② Tpday’s passage describes inner signs that will appear within people. Spiritual evidences (the “deep darkness” prophesied in Isaiah 60:2). People will endlessly fall into corruption to become lovers of self, arrogant, impatient, violent, and lovers of pleasure. As for the church and believers, three things will be evident. They will have a form of godliness but deny its power (6), oppose spiritual leaders (8), and face continued persecution and hardship (12).
2) What we need to prepare in the last days is to build the bartizan and stand as watchmen. This is about restoring our true identity. ① What identity? As 2 Timothy 2 said last week, the “identity of a disciple”. Beyond just being a child of God, a disciple is one who follows Christ and lives and dies for Him. Stand as a strong soldier of Christ, run the race of covenant as a runner with Christ, and be a disciple like a farmer that sows the seeds for Christ. The reason the world is dark and churches are closing is because there is a lack of disciples. ② At that time, God Himself will send watchmen for us who never rest (Isaiah 62:6–7). While we hold the covenant of the bartizan and stand as spiritual watchmen, God sends heavenly watchmen (His heavenly army and angels) to work. While we stay awake and prepare for spiritual battle, Christ Himself moves the angels to fight (Revelation 17:14). Thus, our spiritual victory is guaranteed (Rom. 16:20).
3) With that identity, we must be in three spiritual flows that we can enjoy. Then we will experience inevitable victory and a life where things take place. ① God gives us His Word and places us in the flow of the Word. By His Word He created the world, the Word became flesh and came down to us, and now He has given us the written Word. By His Word He rescues us from crisis (Psalm 107:20), He makes us wiser than our enemies (Psalm 119:98), and He revives all people (Ezekiel 37:10). The Word is not just text. It is the Word of the gospel by which Christ is proclaimed, lifted high and is with us (Romans 10:17, Ephesians 2:13, John 15:7). Thus Paul says, “Continue in what you have learned and become convinced of” (14). Believe and hold firmly to the power of the Word (the blessing of meditation). ② God leads us to hold His Word and pray, and in prayer He works through the Holy Spirit (flow of prayer). Why must we pray with the Word? Because only then can we pray according to God’s will and in faith. All Scripture is God-breathed (Work of the Holy Spirit, 16). That is why holding to the Word is the beginning of the Holy Spirit’s work. Through it God gives teaching (comfort and strength), rebuking (repentance, healing, renewal), correcting, and training in righteousness (challenge). ③ God’s conclusion is to use us in evangelism and mission for saving all people and all nations (flow of evangelism). Scripture says God equips us as His people for every good work (17). What does it mean to be made complete as God’s people? It means knowing God’s heart to save all lives, nations, and peoples, and devoting our lives fully to it (Luke 15 parables of the lost son, lost coin, and lost sheep).
Conclusion - In the days of the first judgment of the flood, Noah and his family were chosen by grace, saved the world, and fulfilled God’s will (Genesis 6:8, Romans 11:5). In the same way, may every believer prepare for the last days like Noah and his household, and be used to fulfill God’s will.
Preparation for the Last Days (2 Timothy 3:1–5) 9/21/2025 September 21, 2025
The Disciples We Must Leave Behind (2 Timothy 2:1–7) 9/14/2025
We are sharing from 2 Timothy, the final letter Paul wrote before his martyrdom in prison. The central theme of 2 Timothy is the answer to the questions - in the last days of the world and in the final moments of our lives, what will we leave behind on earth, and how will we stand before God? Last week, in chapter 1, Paul spoke about Timothy, a disciple with genuine faith whom Paul deeply loved, thanked God for, and longed for. This week, in chapter 2, Paul explains how to raise disciples and what kind of disciples we must leave behind. In verse 1, he first urges Timothy to be strong in grace. This is because, while disciples receive great blessings, they must also endure much suffering and persecution. Paul then urges Timothy to find truly faithful people and raise them as true disciples of Christ. So, how should we begin?
- I must first stand as such a disciple myself(Verse1).
1) Every saved believer is, from the moment of salvation, both a child of God and called to be a disciple of Christ. In fact, the Early Church referred to those who believed in Christ and were saved as “disciples” (Acts 2:41). The title “Christian” (those belonging to Christ) given later (Acts 11:26) also carried the meaning of discipleship. It was through them that the gospel reached us today.
2) But over time, the church lost hold of this blessing. After surviving Rome’s brutal persecution, when Christianity became Rome’s state religion, people were able to live peaceful, prosperous lives (this was actually one of Satan’s strategies to destroy the church). For generations, people raised in Christian backgrounds (“faith from birth”) fell into this danger. Eventually, many degraded into mere churchgoers, then into formalistic Christians with only an outward shell, and finally into people who only clung to their positions and titles. The result was the thousand years of Medieval Church history.
3) Why did this happen? Believers must quickly escape from this state. ① They lost the knowledge of who Christ truly is (spiritual ignorance). They know the church, but they don’t know Christ. They live without knowing His meaning, His authority, or His power. That is why, even while living as Christians, many suffer from depression, panic disorders, suicidal thoughts, mental illnesses, and even get caught in shamanistic practices. ② They don’t know that the authority and power of Christ is within them (spiritual incompetence). They don’t understand what it means that we are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood.” The authority of a king is to overcome Satan and to win in the world. Christ gave us His kingship. The authority of a priest is to set people free from sin, curses, and fate, and to bless them. He gave us this priesthood. ③ Because they neither know nor enjoy this authority and power, there is nothing they can do (spiritual corruption). God gave us this blessing and mission so that we could save others like ourselves, and all nations in suffering, but they do not hold that mission in our hearts. Israel lost this blessing, and that is why they fell into slavery, captivity, and colonization.
- How can we raise such disciples?
When I myself first stand as a disciple of Christ, then God will attach prepared people who can also be raised as disciples. In this passage, Paul emphasizes three kinds of disciples we must first become and then raise others to be the same.
1) Disciples trained as good soldiers of Christ(Verse3-4) ① Soldiers are prepared to guard what they possess and to take back what was stolen. Since Genesis 3, humanity has lost everything and had it stolen by Satan. All failure, suffering, and death came from this. ② God sent His Son to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), and now calls us to fight this spiritual battle and save people. Revelation 12:17 says Satan will fiercely attack believers and the church to stop this. But Christ died, rose again, broke Satan’s authority, and made him kneel before us (Luke 10:19, Romans 16:20). ③ To live in this spiritual victory, believers must do three lifelong things. Build the bartizan of an unshakable foundation in God (blessing of 7 journeys, Romans 8:30–39). Be a watchman who always alert in prayer (blessing of the throne upon family, church, field, Isaiah 62:6–7). Be a warrior who knows Satan’s schemes and fights (work of Holy Spirit revealed, Matthew 12:28). Though we may face failure, suffering, or injustice, those who fight to the end and win are the true soldiers.
2) Disciples trained as those who silently run the race set before them (runners), delivering the covenant(Verse5). Delivering the covenant not only saves me, but also raises disciples who will save the church, the field, and future remnants. What’s important is to “compete according to the rules.” It’s not about just running hard, it’s about running according to God’s promise (covenant). ① The eternal covenant is Christ. Make Him your “only.” He is the mystery to saving myself. He is the perfect, unique, and eternal answer, and the ultimate goal (Philippians 3:14). Through continually hearing and meditating on Christ’s message, the covenant is imprinted, rooted, and becomes our nature. ② The covenant of the age is world evangelization. Hold onto it as uniqueness. Only those with the secret of “only Christ” can do this. The end of the world will come only after the gospel is preached to all nations (Matthew 24:14). God will make everything into evidence to raise us as witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). ③ The field covenant is for our own region and nation. We are recreating the flow of our field so that our families and children will also live. The current state of America is dangerous and dark. We must save it. This is why we must establish the model system of the “three courtyards” in the church. We must also pray for our nation and, especially, for the gospelization of world powers. That is why God placed us in America. ④ The covenant for the church that will be the center of this blessing. God gives us the covenant of the pulpit. This is the mystery by which we can have victory toady, this week, and this year (through the pulpit, God gives us comfort, renewal, and challenge) He blesses the entire church and all believers through the flow of the pulpit (Ezekiel 47). When we believe in this covenant, God works (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
3) Disciples trained like farmers who sow seeds and wait for fruit (Verse6). Disciple is a person who can wait for the future. We must also wait when it comes to saving people. All labor and dedication, when endured with patience, will ultimately come as eternal answers and blessings.
① Salvation is by grace, but reward and glory are reaped according to what we sow (Galatians 6:7, 9). That’s why we must dedicate our everything (time, talents, and finances) to the gospel. ② “The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.” There is a special glory and blessing for those who labor. Jesus promised that if we sacrifice for the gospel, we will receive a hundredfold in this life and enjoy eternal things (Mark 10:29–30).
Conclusion - What will we leave behind on this earth? Disciples. A disciple of faith, a soldier of Christ, a runner, and a farmer-like disciple. May I stand as a true disciple of Christ, and may other disciples be raised through me.
The Disciples We Must Leave Behind (2 Timothy 2:1–7) 9/14/2025 September 14, 2025

One Person of Sincere Faith (2 Timothy 1:3–8) 9/7/2025
Starting this week, we will share from 2 Timothy, the final letter Paul wrote from prison that makes us deeply reflect on how to raise the next generation as true disciples of Christ. The letter is named “Timothy” because Paul wrote it to Timothy, his spiritual son that he raised and deeply loved. After sending this letter, it is known that Paul was later martyred by execution.
How important of a person was Timothy? Before Paul’s martyrdom, Timothy was the one Paul longed for the most. Paul poured out everything he had into raising this disciple. Timothy, who followed after Paul and the first generation, became a leader of the Early Church and continued the work of world evangelization.
Timothy was originally the child of a Greek father and a Jewish mother, a child of an international marriage. As today’s passage hints, he grew up without his father, and was raised instead by his grandmother and mother. That must have been a deep wound during his growth. Yet Timothy grew up to be someone praised by the church. Timothy met Paul during Paul’s second evangelism journey and they became lifelong co-workers (Acts 16:1–2).
For remnants, Timothy is a model of how one can grow into a worker pleasing to God even in the most difficult environment. For adults, he is a model of how to raise such a next generation to prepare for God’s future.
This is “the one person” God desires. They are the remnants, the disciples. Numbers don’t matter, nor does their situation. Too often, we make excuses about these things. Satan uses them as channels to ruin a person’s life (Isaiah 61:1). But the Holy Spirit can turn them into absolute blessings, raising them as absolute disciples who save their age. This week’s covenant is about what kind of person of God Timothy became, and our covenant is “one person of sincere faith.”
1. What is “sincere faith”?
1) Above all, what God desires from us is faith (Romans 10:10, Matthew 9:22, Mark 11:24, Mark 16:17–20). Faith in what? ① Faith in how God loves us (absolute love). How He sent His Son as the Christ to redeem us and make us His children. Believe how tremendous the blessings (life, authority, power) Christ has given us are, and how He continues to help us now within us and from the throne of heaven. Therefore, fix your eyes on Him 24/7 (Colossians 3:1–4).
② Faith in that God will bless and use us in every problem and event (absolute plan). There is no reason to despair because of past scars, present struggles, or future problems. In fact, through problems, God lets us know His deeper things (Jeremiah 33:3, 1 Corinthians 2:10). All we need to do leave it up to Him and wait (1 Peter 5:7).
③ Faith in that through me, God heals and saves the world (absolute power). Jesus said that those who believe will do the works He did and even greater (John 14:12–14). If we hold to this covenant and pray, God will do abundantly beyond all we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Then all things will work together for good (Romans 8:29), and we will become witnesses of God to save people like us and the world (Acts 1:8).
2) This faith must be sincere, without falsehood. What does that mean? ① The Greek word for sincere has meanings like “without a mask,” “without calculation,” “unchanging.” This is the vessel God wants to form in us so He can use us (true spirituality). ② We must spend our whole life forming this vessel of faith. When this faith exists, God gives His everything, even making the smallest things into His masterpiece.
2. How was this faith formed in Timothy?
1) It began in the family. Verse 5 says, “This faith first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice.” ① Faith comes through teaching (Romans 10:17, Ephesians 1:13). That is why we must plant the accurate Word of the gospel. ② More importantly, faith comes through example. When you personally believe in God’s love, plan, and power in Christ, and live before God, that faith is conveyed through your life and your family. Through your daily life, and especially during problems and crises, this faith is relayed. Even if parents lack in every other way, they can still pass down sincere faith, and that faith can raise a person who saves the age.
2) Support from the church and a pastor. ① This is why Paul chose Timothy in his youth to be a team member with him. Through their time together, Timothy heard the gospel accurately and witnessed faith in Paul’s life. Though he also saw Paul’s weaknesses and hardships, he witnessed how Paul overcame them by faith. ② Paul’s prayers and spiritual support for Timothy. One reason Paul longed to see Timothy was “to fan into flame the gift of God” that was in him through Paul’s laying on of hands (6). ③ In difficult problems or crucial moments, receive the support and blessing of God’s servant. That is the privilege of believers. Hannah received Eli the priest’s blessing when she bore Samuel (1 Samuel 1:17–18). David was anointed by Samuel to become the future leader (1 Samuel 16:13). When David prayed for the temple (2 Samuel 7:4–17), when he failed (2 Samuel 12:1), and when he was restored (2 Samuel 12:25), he received Nathan’s counsel and blessing.
3) Faith trained through pain and suffering. ① Paul suffered many hardships, but Timothy himself also suffered much while helping Paul (Philippians 2:22). Because of this, Paul sent Timothy to important but difficult mission fields (1 Corinthians 16:10, 1 Thessalonians 3:2–3). ② Even now, while Paul was imprisoned, Paul sends Timothy a message not to be afraid (2 Timothy 1:7). When facing unjust suffering, shame from failure, or deep despair, hold onto this covenant. It is not a time of injustice. It is not a time of shame. It is not a time of despair. God is forming. God is refining me (James 1:2–3). It is like when God led Israel into the wilderness. His absolute plan wasto bless and use them (Deuteronomy 8:15–16)
Conclusion - You may face many hardships, shame, and times of despair. But remnants, throw away all excuses and stand as that one person of sincere faith. And may every first generation be used to raise such a person of faith.
One Person of Sincere Faith (2 Timothy 1:3–8) 9/7/2025 September 7, 2025
