The Mystery of God, Christ (Colossians 2:1–7)
The Mystery of God, Christ (Colossians 2:1–7) 8/10/2025
Last week, through Colossians chapter 1, we shared the Word about Christ, the Son of God. Humans cannot solve its fundamental and spiritual problems by ourselves, so God Himself came in the form of the Son to be our Savior. Therefore, He alone is our only salvation (Only), our only answer and blessing (Uniqueness), and the one who can renew our life and the world (Re–creation). In this, we have been saved, and God desires to use our lives in the same way as a system of only, uniqueness, and re-creation. Then, our life becomes God’s eternal masterpiece. Colossians chapter 2 explains – when did God prepare this blessing? For whom did He prepare it? How will He complete it? This is the mystery of God. Verse 2 says that Christ is that mystery of God. What does “mystery” mean? It doesn’t simply mean a secret. It means something that is so important and perfectly prepared. Therefore, our salvation is important and perfectly prepared. Then, what does our life, having received such salvation, mean?
- What is this mystery of God in Christ?
1) It was hidden from eternity past but has now been revealed (Romans 16:25–26). Saying it was hidden from eternity past means Christ was prepared before the creation of world and humen.
① What does it mean for God to have already prepared salvation even before man sinned and fell? It means that God created man as a free being (with free will) able to choose good or evil. He prepared blessings to enjoy when choosing good, and curses and judgment when choosing evil (Romans 5:12). But that’s not the end.
② Even when man chose evil, God could not leave him be. So, He had already prepared the way of salvation (God’s absolute love). What about our life now? We have lost the ability to choose good (Romans 3:10–12, John 6:44). That is why God sent His Son as the Christ and opened the way to restore everything if we just believe in his redemption (God’s absolute grace).
2) This mystery is something that cannot be known or understood by anyone except the chosen (Matthew 13:14, 1 Corinthians 2:7–8).
① These are called “the remained” or “the remnant,” (Revelation 11:5, “those chosen by grace”).
② In Revelation, the 144,000 are the chosen and remained ones by grace (Revelation 7:4).
Satan does evil things to try to take away their faith, but the saints are washed by the blood of the Lamb in tribulation (Revelation 7:14), and they will be the ones to hold firmly to faith in Christ to the end, and become victors (Revelation 14:12).
3) God placed all His fullness in Christ (Colossians 1:19, 2:9).
① God put His life, authority, and power, things only He can give, into Christ.
Those who receive Christ receive that life, authority, and power with Him. That is why we are called Christ’s ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20) and royal priests (1 Peter 2:9). We have God’s DNA. We have the authority to overcome the power of the world and darkness, and the power to give life and blessings to all. When we realize this, use it, and share it, it appears as evidence (evangelism and missions).
② In Him are hidden all the treasures of God’s wisdom and knowledge(Verse 3).
What are these treasures? It is understanding God’s deep plan in ordinary times and in times of problems and crises. God lets us understand this when we pray (Jeremiah 33:3). The Holy Spirit helps us from within (1 Corinthians 12:10–12).
③ In short, this is called spirituality. Those who enjoy this mystery are called spiritual summits. Joseph, sold as a slave, enjoyed this blessing. His master recognized it, the prison warden recognized it, and the king recognized it (Genesis 41:39). The uneducated 12 disciples and the nameless saints in Mark’s Upper Room enjoyed this blessing and saved the world (Acts 2:1–4). This is the great work God truly desires to do through us (Acts 2:11) and becomes the eternal masterpiece (Revelation 7:9–11).
- Now the only thing that remains is to experience and enjoy this mystery. How and what should we do?
1) Enjoy this mystery today, in daily life (24), and in every problem and event (25).
① At the start of each day, find today’s Word, prayer, and evangelism. What is the first routine you do in the morning? During the day, in all problems, events, and meetings, find God’s good plan. In the evening, always have time for meditation. Look back on your day, gain strength from the Word, and receive healing.
② A life in which this happens cannot be deceived. The salvation we have received and the answers and blessings we will enjoy are enormous (mystery). Satan will try to deceive us so we cannot enjoy it. He will make us fall into discouragement, temptation, giving up, and despair.
How does Satan deceive? He makes us fail through our greed. He leads us into unbelief through worldly philosophy, knowledge, and temptation. He isolates us through conflicts and disappointments with people.
③ But if we focus on and enjoy this mystery of God in every problem and event, what will be the result? Every problem will instead become a time to root deeply in the gospel and stand firm in faith (verse 7 beginning). In the end, everything will become a reason for thanksgiving and God’s eternal masterpiece (verse 7 end).
2) Enjoy this mystery in your occupation (studies, job, business).
① When you live with the confession and faith that only Christ is your Lord and your blessing (Only), there is a promised blessing (Psalm 16:2–6). It is the blessing of uniqueness. God will honor you as precious, protect, and bless all you do, and it will become an inheritance of joy from God. Even when the world is difficult, there are special blessings to enjoy in your studies, job, and business.
② There, through you, God will connect people who will come alive and be used together as disciples of Christ. Your life will be a witness. You will meet people like yourself, and people who will be used like you. You don’t need many people. Meeting even one can become a lifelong co-worker and blessing.
3) From now on, challenge the blessing of 300% in whatever you do.
① Do the rightful, obvious things. When done by someone holding onto God’s mystery, it becomes inevitable and absolute. What you do as a matter of course and what seems to happen by chance will someday all be seen as blessings.
② The standard for the blessing we enjoy is called 300%. One day, I come alive and am happy (100%). Through me, in my field (home, children, job, business), people hear the gospel, come alive, and become happy (100%). God sends such a person to all nations, TCKs, and the world (100%).
Conclusion – Those who realize and look to Christ are those who have God’s mystery. It is that precious and prepared. In these last days, though we live amidst many difficulties, tribulations, and problems, may your life enjoy the mystery of God and become that mystery of God.
